In this video, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about the Ultra-Hard Top – P4 Plus for four-drum spill containment indoors or out. Note that our training videos are mostly designed to help our distributors better understand our products but can also be helpful to users of the products, as well.
TRANSCRIPT:
Hello everyone, and welcome to another UltraTech product training session. Today, we’re talking about the Ultra-Hard Top P4 Plus.
The Hard Top P4 Plus is a spill containment pallet designed specifically for up to four 55-gallon drums. With the addition of a hardtop, it is perfect for outdoor storage or for secured storage indoors.
To access the drums inside, there are two options. If quick access is needed, the roll-top door is easily lifted up and out of the way.
For complete access for inspection or drum loading or unloading, a pair of swing-out doors are also available.
This dual entry system is duplicated on the opposite side for easy access from either side of the hardtop.
The Ultra-Hard Top P4 Plus has a weight capacity of 9,000 lbs. UDL or Uniformly Distributed Load and a containment capacity of 75 gallons which is more than enough capacity to meet the EPA and SPCC regulations. I will put a link down below in the description of a video that explains those regulations in more detail.
The P4 is made with polyethylene. We use polyethylene for all of our rotationally molded products for a number of different reasons, but some of the main ones are one that it will not rust or corrode. And two, it has excellent chemical resistance.
The hardtop has built-in forklift pockets and can be moved with forklifts or pallet jacks. Just keep in mind that it is only a 2-way entry. There are no forklift pockets on the sides of the unit.
The two-piece grating that the drums sit on inside of the hardtop is removable for quick and easy inspection or clean-up.
There are some options available. A ¾” drain plug can be installed to make spill clean up easier. Also, a ramp is available for convenient drum loading and unloading. This is a polyethylene ramp with a steel plate that clips onto the pallet. The interior of the hardtop is large enough so that even with 4 drums, there is still plenty of room to store the ramp when it’s not being used.
Applications for this product are likely to be either outdoors or indoors where secured storage is needed. Typically, in manufacturing, warehousing, chemical processing, property management, or auto service.
Really, any industry where 55-gallon drums are used is a good application for the P4.
What else do you need to know?
The Ultra-Hard Top P4 Plus is NOT waterproof. It is better described as weatherproof. In other words, in standard weather conditions, your drums should be protected and water gathering in the pallets is not a concern. However, during very gusty conditions or very heavy rainfall, some water may get into the unit. It’s a good practice to inspect the interior of the hardtop after any severe weather.
It uses the Ultra-Spill Pallet P4 Plus as its base. So dimensions and capacities are exactly the same. The only difference is the color.
When we make this product, we include a UV inhibitor. Without that, the polyethylene would break down and become brittle over time in the sun and elements.
Other products to consider if you’re looking at the P4 and aren’t quite convinced?
The original 4-drum hardtop also provides covered containment at a lower price point.
If you decide that a hardtop isn’t necessary, we have a number of 4 drum pallets like this economy model.
We also have spill decks like this 4-drum spill deck bladder system where the bladder remains hidden and unfurls automatically if there is a spill.
