In this video, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about the Ultra-Hard Top Plus, which provides spill containment for multiple 55-gallon drums, indoors or out. Note that our training videos are mostly designed to help our distributors better understand our products but can also be helpful to users of the products, as well.
TRANSCRIPT:
Hello everyone, and welcome to another UltraTech product training session. Today, we’re talking about the Ultra-Hard Top Plus Models.
The Hard Top Plus Models are multi-compartment, covered spill containment units. The Plus Models use many of the same parts and components as our 4-drum hard top unit. In fact, in its simplest terms, the Hard Top Plus Models are essentially multiple 4-drum hardtops that are physically connected.
These Hard Tops are available in an 8, 12, 16, and 20 drum configuration.
We also offer an extender kit which allows users to add additional 4-drum compartments to their current systems. So, you could easily turn your eight-drum hardtop into a 12 drum, a 20 drum into a 24 drum. You get the idea.
To access the drums inside, there are two options. If quick access is needed, the roll-top door is easily lifted up and out of the way.
For complete access for inspection or drum loading or unloading, a pair of swing-out doors is also available.
This dual entry system is duplicated on the opposite side for easy access from either side of the hardtop.
The Ultra-Hard Top Plus Models have a weight capacity of 9,000 lbs. UDL or Uniformly Distributed Load for each compartment and a containment capacity of 75 gallons, again, for each compartment. This is more than enough capacity to meet the EPA and SPCC regulations. I will put a link down below in the description to a video that explains those regulations in more detail.
The Hard Top is made with polyethylene. We use polyethylene for all of our rotationally molded products for a number of different reasons, but some of the main ones are one that it will not rust or corrode. And two, it has excellent chemical resistance.
Each compartment has a two-piece grating system that the drums sit on. That grating is removable for quick and easy inspection or clean-up.
There are some options available. A ¾” drain plug can be installed to make spill clean up easier. Also, a ramp is available for convenient drum loading and unloading. This is a polyethylene ramp with a steel plate that clips onto the pallet. The interior of the hardtop is large enough so that even with 4 drums, there is still plenty of room to store the ramp when it’s not being used.
Applications for this product are likely to be either outdoors or indoors where secured storage is needed. Typically, in manufacturing, warehousing, chemical processing, property management, or auto service.
Really, any industry where 55-gallon drums are used is a good application for the Hard Top Plus Models.
What else do you need to know?
The Ultra-Hard Tops are NOT waterproof. They are better described as weatherproof. In other words, in standard weather conditions, your drums should be protected and water gathering in the pallets is not a concern. However, during very gusty conditions or very heavy rainfall, some water may get into the unit. It’s a good practice to inspect the interior of the hardtop after any severe weather.
It uses the Ultra-Spill Pallet P4 Plus as its base. So dimensions and capacities are exactly the same. The only difference is the color.
When we make this product, we include a UV inhibitor. Without that, the polyethylene would break down and become brittle over time in the sun and elements.
Other products to consider if you’re looking at the Hard Top Plus Models and aren’t quite convinced?
While there is nothing else like this product. A possible alternative would be multiple units of our 4-drum hardtops, either the Hard Top P4 Plus or the original, “gull-wing” style.
There are links below to both of these products should you care to investigate further.
