Last week, I set the stage for this new email series and, while it was a brilliantly written account, I didn’t get into any specific products. That starts right here… right now (queue the dramatic intro music)

No discussion about stormwater management or construction compliance products can be complete without talking about the Ultra-Drain Guards. Now, there are about twelve different models of Ultra-Drain Guard but this email will focus on the two originals, the Oil & Sediment Model and the Oil & Sediment Plus Model.

If you take no other action, based on this series, except to add those two products to your offering, you’ll be ahead of the game. These two models are wildly popular and perpetually take spots on our top sellers list.

But before we get too far along. Let me take a few moments to explain in basic terms what these things are. The Drain Guards are what is referred to generically as a catch basin insert. A catch basin is where rain water goes after it enters a storm drain.

So, it’s essentially like a giant version of a coffee pot (catch basin) and filter (catch basin insert). With me?

I’m quickly getting into dangerous territory as far as the length of this email so before I write even more, let me give you a link in case you need to get back to work or check Facebook.

Contents pulled from a Drain Guard test unit.

Both Drain Guard models use a needlepunched, geotextile that is ludicrously strong, filters out sand, sediment, trash, debris and other junk… AND it absorbs oil. Cool huh? But wait! There’s more! The Oil & Sediment Plus Model adds a material called Ultra-Filter-Tex which allows it to absorb even MORE oil (thus the “plus”).

The units are designed with overflow ports so in the event of a large amount of rainfall in a short period of time, or if the Drain Guard is not properly maintained and becomes full of dirt, sand and sediment, the water can flow through the overflow ports preventing any flooding or ponding at street level.

Ok, your mind is in the gutter now. Please try and keep it there. See ya next week!
