I trust that you had an amazing holiday season. But I’m sure that you thought hard and often about stormwater management while you were caroling, wrapping presents, gettin crazy at the company Christmas party and whooping it up on New Year’s Eve. I mean, who doesn’t, right?

Not to worry. I’m here.

In the last issue, I talked about the Oil & Sediment and Oil & Sediment Plus, Drain Guards – the best selling stormwater products of all time. But as wildly popular as they are, they aren’t perfect. GASP! It’s scandalous, I know. But stick with me.

As you may already know, the Drain Guards are held in place by pinching the fabric between the grate and the opening of the catch basin (Click here to see the instructions). Which is fine for the install, but what happens when your customer lifts that grate to remove the Drain Guard? Yup, it goes straight to the bottom of the drain. Now, there’s ways to prevent this from happening but if I get into all of that it will take too much time. Not to mention it will detract from the dramatic effect I was going for.

The Adjustable Frame Model and the Economy Frame Model are designed to stay put with or WITHOUT the grating in place. These models use a frame that adjusts to fit the opening of many drains. The frame will prevent the Drain Guard from falling even with a full load of sediment and debris.

The other advantage of these models for those of you concerned with aesthetics (you know who you are) is that there is no fabric visible at the street level. The fabric of the other models must be trimmed if a cleaner appearance is wanted.

One last thing and then I’ll let you go. I’m sure you’re wondering about the difference between these two models. Other than the frame, they are the same. As you might guess from the name, the frame used for the Economy Frame Model is not quite as stout as the one used for the Adjustable Frame Model. Also, the frame in the Adjustable Frame Model is reusable and the Drain Guards can be purchased separately without any frame. Conversely, the Economy Frame Model does not have any reusable parts.

Ok, your mind is in the gutter now. Please try and keep it there. See ya next week!
