In this video, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about our steel spill pallets. Note that our training videos are mostly designed to help our distributors better understand our products but can also be helpful to users of the products, as well.

Hello, and welcome to another UltraTech product training session. Today, we are talking about the Ultra-Spill Pallet, Steel Model. UltraTech is known for its rotationally molded polyethylene spill pallets, but there are applications where a steel spill pallet is a better solution. And that is why we now offer the two drum and four drums steel spill pallets.
As far as specifications, the weight capacity of the two-drum is rated at 2,575 pounds. The four drum is rated at 3,875 pounds, which works out to be 250 pounds per square foot. As you can see, that is a uniformly distributed load. So anything that goes on these pallets needs to be uniformly distributed, or that weight capacity might not be able to be met.
Containment capacity for both the two drum and the four drum is 68 gallons, which will meet the EPA and SPCC regulations. I’ll put a link in the description below to a video that helps to explain the EPA regulations in further detail. They are made with a 14 gauge galvanized steel construction. And they can be moved either with a forklift or a pallet jack. The two drum has a two-way forklift entry and the four drum has a four-way forklift entry.
Both the steel spill pallets, as you can see here, have removable grating. This makes it easier for inspection or clean-up.
As far as applications go, typically this is going to be used indoors for flammables. And that could be in manufacturing, warehousing, chemical processing, property management, auto service, any number of industries really anywhere where a 55-gallon drum is used is a good application for the steel spell pallets.
So why would you choose a steel model spill pallet over one of our other spill pallets? Probably the main reason to choose the steel model is for storage of flammables. If there’s any concern with extreme heat or fire, the steel model is going to stand up better than the plastic model. Plastic will melt, or it could deform in extreme heat. And that’s going to be a potential issue with 55 gallon drums on top. The steel model will retain its structure in heat and fire. There are also some instances where a steel model will have better chemical compatibility than the plastic. In general, the plastic pallets do have better chemical compatibility, but depending on what is being stored on top, that could be a reason why you would choose the steel model. Also durability. The steel model is less likely to be damaged by forklifts, pallet, jacks and other equipment.
Why wouldn’t you choose the steel model? For one, it’s not the least expensive spill pallet that we offer. So. If you are budget conscious, then one of our other polyethylene spill pallets may be a better solution. And as I mentioned before, polyethylene does have, generally speaking, better chemical compatibility than the steel models. So just depending on what you’re looking to store on top of the spill, pallets, that could be a reason why you wouldn’t choose the steel. Also, if you were looking to use a spill pallet with a ramp in order to be able to move drums off and on of the spill pallet, there is no ramp available with the steal spill pallets. So that could be a reason why you would choose one of our other options. And lastly, the profile or the height of the steel model spill pallets. It’s not the lowest spill pallet that we offer. So if that’s a concern, as far as handling and ease of use, then there are some other choices that are lower in height.
Other products to consider if you’re looking at the steel models and you want to know about other solutions. We have a nestable model spill pallet. This is great for saving shipping and storage space. If you’re looking for very low profile, we have a number of spill deck options. We also have outdoor spill containment. If that’s what you’re looking to do. And as I mentioned, we have some more economical versions with the economy spill pallets. And we even have some flexible models that use PVC material for their containment sumps.
