Hidden containment bladder automatically unfurls to capture large spills or drum leaks
How do you take the lowest profile spill containment pallet / deck on the market, drastically reduce its footprint and remain in compliance with the EPA and SPCC spill containment regulations? You don’t.
Well.. you didn’t. Not until we introduced the Ultra-Spill Deck Bladder Systems to the market that is. In our never-ending quest for new and improved products, we looked at the already popular Ultra-Spill Decks and asked ourselves how we could make a single spill deck (1, 2 or 4-drum) EPA and SPCC compliant without being connected to other spill decks (the standard spill decks use bulkhead fittings to connect to other units, allowing them to share containment).
The addition of a rolled up 66-gallon bladder made this possible. By adding this to any spill deck, we can provide a self-contained deck that meets the Federal Government’s spill containment requirements.
Product Highlights
- Ultra-Spill Deck Bladder Systems are low profile, polyethylene (LLDPE) containment decks which meet EPA and SPCC Spill Containment Regulations. Available in 1, 2 and 4-drum modules, the low 5 3/4" deck height allows safe and convenient drum loading, even without drum handling equipment. Add the optional polyethylene (LLDPE) loading ramp for even greater handling ease.
- Compact footprint saves valuable floor space - perfect for drum waste collection usage.
- Use the spill deck bladder systems in place of taller containment pallets - low 5 3/4" deck height offers significant safety and handling benefits. Overspills and small leaks are captured in the sump; catastrophic leaks deploy the bladder, allowing the system to meet regulations.
NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all listed product measurements are L x W x H, outside dimensions, and for a single unit where quantity is more than one.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I reuse a bladder?
No. Spilled liquids will more than likely cause the internal surfaces of the bladder to adhere to each other. We cannot guarantee the proper deployment of a reused bladder.
-
How do you get spillage out of the sump/bladder?
We recommend using a pump (UltraTech part# 2345 can be used) to remove any spilled contents from a sump or bladder. (Note: spillage should be pumped into an approved container).
-
How does the ramp connect to the decks?
The spill deck ramp (part# 1089) comes complete with two steel clips that quickly install on the end of the ramp. These clips hook onto the connecting spill deck and keep the ramp from moving or shifting during loading or unloading. NOTE: The ramp is not designed to be used with the P1 spill decks or the short side of the P2 spill decks.
-
I need to add another spill deck to the one I already have. How do I do that? What do I need?
Other than the spill deck, you’ll need one bulkhead fitting (part# 1073) and one t-strip (part# 1131) for every 26” of spill deck length that is connected. For example, if you’re connecting a 4-drum spill deck to another 4-drum spill deck you would need two bulkhead fittings and two t-strips. If, on the other hand, you were connecting a 1-drum spill deck to the short end of a 2-drum spill deck, you would only need one each of the bulkhead fitting and t-strip.
-
The spill deck that I bought previously does not have any holes to put the bulkhead fitting through. Can I drill holes myself?
Yes. All that is required is a 1 9/16” hole saw (1 ½” will also work). On each side of the Ultra-Spill Decks are “dimpled” areas that indicate where holes are to be drilled. Center the hole saw on the area you need to be drilled and carefully cut the hole(s) for your bulkhead fittings. File or “flame” any rough or sharp edges prior to connecting.
-
What are sidewall plugs for?
Sidewall plugs (Part# 2221) can be used if you are no longer connecting a spill deck and therefore have a hole that needs to be plugged.
-
Is the deck slip-resistant?
Yes, all grating surfaces on the spill decks are slip-resistant.
-
Can the spill decks be moved with a forklift or pallet jack?
The spill deck can NOT be moved with a forklift or pallet jack. The design of the spill deck sidewalls sometimes leads users to think that it is forkliftable or able to be moved with a pallet jack. But what may appear to be forklift pockets are actually supports for the grating.
-
What does a t-strip do?
The t-strips lay across the point where two spill decks come together. By “bridging the gap” this piece diverts spills to either of the decks and keeps any spillage from getting between the units.
-
How many bulkhead fittings and t-strips do I need?
One for each 26” of spill deck that is being connected.
-
Does the Ultra-Spill Deck’s sump capacity meet regulations?
(Note: The answer to this question is based on one assumption: That the spill decks are being used with 55-gallon drums). All of the spill deck bladder systems meet EPA requirements. The inline spill deck systems meet EPA requirements. By themselves, the 1-drum, 2-drum and 4-drum spill decks do not meet EPA requirements. They must be connected to an UltraTech bladder or another Ultra-Spill Deck to increase the total sump capacity to 55 gallons minimum.
-
What is the size of the grating?
Ultra-Spill Deck Plus Models use a grating that is 52″L x 26″W x 4″H. All other spill decks use a grating that is 48″L x 24″W x 2.5″H.
-
I need to replace my bladder. What should I order? What's the difference between a replacement bladder and a bladder attachment?
The replacement bladder (Part# 6340) is what you would need to order. It is just the bladder and does not include the outer housing. The bladder attachment (Part# 2317) includes a bladder and the outside housing.
-
How much space is necessary for the bladder to completely unfurl?
The bladder will roll out 65.5″ away from the deck and will be 66″ wide when completely unfurled.
-
When should the bladder be replaced?
The bladder(s) should be replaced for any of the following reasons: (1) It captures a spill (regardless of the size of the spill), (2) It deploys, rolls, or falls out of the bladder attachment housing. (3) It has sat unused for more than five years.
