The only 1-drum, lockable outdoor containment unit available
Single drums need protection too! There are a lot of hard-topped spill containment products available on the market but this is the only product available for one drum. Why buy more spill pallet than is necessary? Why take up more room than you have to?
Simply use your forklift and/or drum handling equipment to lift and lower the drum into the bottom sump, then place the top portion over the drum where it locks in place onto the lower sump portion. Once assembled with the drum in place, access is quick and easy via the roll top door. The top hard top section does not need to be removed again unless the drum needs to be replaced.
- Two-piece spill containment unit provides safe and secure outdoor storage for your 55-gallon drum.
- Convenient roll top cover slides up and out of the way—allows quick access to drum pumps and funnels.
- 100% polyethylene (LLDPE) construction will not rust or corrode.
- Safe handling—can be moved by forklift under the “shoulder” area or wheeled with the optional dolly.
- Meets SPCC and EPA Container Storage Regulation 40 CFR 264.175.
- Tall headspace (25 3/4") allows use with drum pumps and conical funnels.
- Lightweight, yet rugged upper body is easily removed to load or unload drums.
- UV inhibitor in polyethylene (LLDPE) resin resists degrading effects of sunlight, adding years to outdoor service life.
- Lockable design provides added security for storage of hazardous materials.
- Optional dolly offers safe and efficient material handling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus made of?
The Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus is rotationally molded using low-density polyethylene.
Is the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus lockable?
Yes, the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus is lockable to prevent unauthorized access. There are three points that will require padlocks or zip ties (two to secure the top section to the bottom section and one to lock the roll top).
Is there any UV protection since the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus is used outdoors?
Yes, as with all UltraTech products that are rotomolded, the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus is made with “built-in” UV protection so that it will have a long outdoor service life.
How do I get the drum into the containment sump?
An Ultra-Drum Lifter or some other drum handling equipment will be required to lift the drum and lower it into the containment sump.
Is the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus portable?
Yes, the hard top can be moved in one of two ways: (1) it can be forklifted under the “shoulder” of the containment sump (2) the optional dolly – Part# 0417
Can I move this hard top with a drum inside?
No, we do not recommend moving loaded hard tops.
Is the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus waterproof?
No, the spill pallet is not completely waterproof. It is more accurately described as weatherproof. In other words, in standard weather conditions, your drums and/or containers should be protected and water gathering in the pallets is not a concern. However, during very gusty conditions or very heavy rainfall, some water may get into the unit. It is good practice to inspect the interior of the hard top after any severe weather.
What is the sump capacity of the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus?
The Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus can contain up to 70 gallons (265 L).
What is the load capacity of the Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus?
The Ultra-Hard Top P1 Plus can handle uniformly distributed loads of up to 800 lbs. (363 Kg).
What other products should I consider?
The Ultra-Hard Top P2 Plus provides outdoor spill containment for up to two drums so if there’s a possibility of a second drum needing containment in the same area, that would be a good solution.
How long can I expect my UltraTech polyethylene (PE) spill containment product to last outdoors?
UltraTech’s general response to this question is at least ten (10) years. You can expect longer, but the actual life is dependent on several factors. UltraTech has been making outdoor spill containment products since 1993. We have a good sense of realistic life expectancy based on all those years of experience. UltraTech uses the highest-rated UV package in the resin formulation it uses to create the longest outdoor life available for a PE product
What are the factors that affect the life of a PE spill containment product outdoors?
The most important environmental factors are ultraviolet exposure and chemical exposure. In the absence of chemical compatibility concerns (determined by the UltraTech compatibility chart for PE products), the next most important factor for outdoor, polyethylene spill containment products will be ultraviolet irradiation (UV) exposure. The most important factors with reference to UV are thickness, UV Inhibitor (UVI) content, and pigment color, type, and concentration. Ultraviolet irradiation exposure causes molecular structure and bond changes that result in the embrittlement of PE. Very thin PE can become brittle and fracture in less than a year (think contractor’s PE Visqueen sheeting). Thicker parts take longer to break down. The addition of UV Inhibitors to the PE allows it to sustain more UV exposure without breaking down. Darker pigments, inorganic pigments, and higher concentrations of pigments also individually and collectively will give PE a longer life before appreciable UV damage occurs.
What is the longest life of an outdoor spill containment product you have seen?
There is an outdoor spill containment product that has been in use in northeast Florida since 1986 and is still in active use today. UltraTech suggests its Ultra-Track Pans, used for outdoor railroad track spill containment, have a minimum of a twenty-year life.
