Ultra-Rail Mats are designed specifically with rail applications in mind. 30″ wide rolls can be used on the outside of rails; 60″ wide roll fits right between standard rails. This heavy-duty mat, made with Ultra-Filter-Tex, is designed specifically to absorb oils and fuels, not water, from railcars during railyard maintenance

What is the best way to cut the Ultra-Rail Mat?
Sharp scissors will be the simplest way to cut the mat. A sharp utility knife could also be used. Whichever you choose, please be sure to use proper safety measure as well as the appropriate PPE.

Does the Ultra-Rail Mat absorb water?
No, Ultra-Rail Mat is hydrophilic so water passes very quickly through it leaving it dry so it can absorb oil and other hydrocarbons.

Does the Ultra-Rail Mat absorb synthetic oils?
The Ultra-Filter-Tex material used in the Ultra-Rail Mat is designed for the absorption of hydrocarbons and will not absorb synthetics.

Why would I use Ultra-Rail Mat instead of the polypropylene absorbents that everyone else uses?
The Ultra-Filter-Tex material that the rail mat is made from absorbs oil and other hydrocarbons much faster than traditional absorbents. A polypropylene sorbent material will not allow water to freely pass through it. Oil will absorb at the surface of a polypropylene absorbent, and the polypropylene will eventually blind over and the center will not absorb any oil.

Can absorbed oil be removed/extracted from the Ultra-Rail Mat?
Yes, approximately 85-90 % of absorbed oils can be reclaimed from the material and the media reused, through a press or centrifuge.

Is the Ultra-Rail Mat safe for the environment?
The rail mat is environmentally benign and user-friendly. It does not leach harmful substances into the environment and when incinerated produces minimal residue or ash.
